I Started my Lipedema journey in May of 2025. I started meeting with surgeons in July 2025. I learned rather quickly that the “surgeons” truly did not know how to treat Lipedema and they often mistake it for Lymphedema. In July of 2025 I thought I had found the “one” and submitted my request for approval with my insurance company. I was denied rather quickly. I thought I was well prepared and had documented everything they needed based upon what I learned from google & tik tok. Boy was I wrong! The package I allowed my surgeon to submit on my behalf along with my documentation actually hurt my case in the beginning. I was advised that I had to do 3 months of conservative measures and then could reapply again. I had already done the 3 months so I didn’t understand what I could possibly do for the next 3 months …. l went back to the drawing board, and that is when I came across my surgeon and his team. I had my virtual consult with them in October. They highly recommended that I consult with the Lipedema Connection Coverage team to assist with the insurance process. We did not bat an eye even with the cost associated with it as we knew the insurance was going to be a battle and we wanted the help.I applied that night. There was so much information, but step by step instructions and website you could go back to if you got side tracked to assist you with each step. Proper instructions on wording and photos. The importance of wording and photos is critical. You have to remember the insurance companies will more than likely have a doctor review your case to deem it medically necessary so they need to see “you” as a lipedema patient. The documentation and the proper wording from your physicians is crucial as well. I had to have wording changed several times with my doctor. Was it frustrating? Yes, but worth it? HECK YES! There were so many things that they help with along the way that truly did help with the process of the insurance approval.There were some points along the way where there were some push backs with the insurance process and they just stepped in and help push back. They helped me advocate for myself, and they advocated for ME! At the end of November of 2025, we submitted for my surgery approval again.On December 5 I received my approval for FOUR surgeries!!! Highly recommend if you are going through the process of getting insurance to cover your surgeries that will be well over $130,000 you reach out to Lipedema Coverage Connection to assist you with the process! You will not be disappointed!

I wanted to share my experience with LCC. LCC provided me with all the steps to get coverage approved and with their help my pre-authorization was approved within a couple of weeks of submitting. I knew ahead of time that Cigna never approves lipo to the stomach area which I was okay with. Cigna also denied skin removal on my hips and buttocks. I decided to use a surgeon located in California based on recommendations from LCC and she is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend her, she goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable with everything. With LCC help and my surgeon’s help I was able to get the SCA done within a couple of months and to my surprise I also got approved for lipo on my stomach and skin removal from hips and buttocks which I was not expecting. I have been approved for 4 surgeries worth over $100,00 to the surgeon and another $75,000 for the hospital fees and stay. I am scheduled for my 2nd surgery this week. I couldn’t thank LCC enough for their help and guidance throughout this process.
